As the name implies, the "Unter den Eichen" location is distinguished above all by a grove of oak trees that are well worth protecting. The three-storey building stands calmly and naturally between these trees. The large volume of the structure is relieved by its transparent facade design, which helps to link it with the surrounding environment. The building is enclosed in a geometrically clear, precise skin, and the materials used for the outer layer are confined to wood and glass.

The facade, not unlike a stack of shelving, helps to create fascinating lighting conditions within, and the three-dimensional character of these elements lends the building a lively outward quality, despite its formally strict geometry. The horizontal shelf-like units also establish a rhythm in the internal space
and – together with the vertical side members – form a calm grid that articulates the facade and ensures pleasant indoor lighting conditions. A glazed construction was developed for the east and west facades. Wooden strips inserted in the cavity between the layers of glass provide the necessary protection against insolation and glare.
